The Antioxidant Serum My Combination Skin Has Been Waiting For?

I’ve never actually used many antioxidants in my skincare routine. There, I’ve said it.

I love niacinamide and retinol, but I’ve only just started trying out Vitamin C (I often worry about disrupting my combination skin, so I’m more of a reserved skincare girly when it comes to incorporating new ingredients or products), but when the Jordan Samuel Antioxidant Treatment Emulsion (£61  from Jordan Samuel UK /$65.00 from Jordan Samuel US) landed in my postbox, after having read great things about its results and how gentle it is, I couldn’t wait to try it.

The brand says this emulsion is suitable for all skin types, and the fact that it doesn’t contain Vitamin C makes it great for those who can’t tolerate that ingredient in skincare.

So how did my combination skin get on with this emulsion that’s designed for use even on sensitive skin types?

Happy birthday to Antioxidant Treatment Emulsion! ??? Our powerhouse antioxidant and peptide serum launched one year ago today, offering a gentle but effective alternative for my fellow sensitive skins that struggle to get along with vitamin C serums. One year later and we’re still ?obsessed? HBD to ATE! ?? #skincare #antioxidants #serum #skincareroutine #fallskincare #glowyskin

Jordan Samuel Antioxidant Treatment Emulsion

The brand describes this product as “A power-house antioxidant and peptide serum featuring niacinamide, resveratrol, astaxanthin and palmitoyl tripeptide-8 to help combat oxidative environmental stressors and support the skin barrier to help leave skin calm, hydrated and resilient.” Sounds fab to me.

Already being a fan of niacinamide for its brightening effects as well as keeping my breakouts in check, I was more excited to see how the resveratrol and palmitoyl tripeptide-8 worked on my skin – since resveratrol helps to reduce redness (which I sometimes suffer with), and palmitoyl tripeptide-8 soothes the skin while helping to bind water to it.

This powerhouse product also contains aloe vera for soothing and hydrating, fermented brown rice to brighten and tighten pores, and astaxanthin to fight fine lines and wrinkles. It’s literally FULL of amazing ingredients.

It’s a pretty small package, coming in at 50ml for quite a hefty price tag, so is it worth it?

My first impressions and results

First off, I noticed the packaging is pretty small, but, this was actually a godsend because I was due to fly to Spain the week after and I was able to fit this into my liquids bag! The packaging is quite chunky, but these simple and classic-looking black and white products do look nice on my skincare shelf.

When I pumped a small amount of the emulsion onto my hand, I loved the orange ice cream-type hue. I smoothed some over the top of my hand and it felt creamy, buttery, and instantly hydrating. And, no sign of a strong chemical scent. Bonus.

This can be used morning or/and night, and the packaging says to “Massage a small amount into slightly damp skin until fully absorbed. Follow with a moisturiser (if desired) and SPF (AM)”. So, that’s what I did!

After washing my face with water in the morning (I rarely fully cleanse in the AM), I kept my skin damp and applied one pump of the emulsion onto my face and neck, massaging it in until it was absorbed – which didn’t take long. My skin felt instantly refreshed and hydrated, but I followed up with my go-to CeraVe Moisturising Lotion since it’s really lightweight. The good news is that there are no signs of pilling when layering this product and I’ve had no signs of irritation!

My skin was hydrated all day and, after around a week of daily use, it looks slightly brighter and feels smoother. Despite being super happy with this emulsion, I’m not sure I would regularly spend £61/$65 on it – possibly for a treat or a gift from someone.

What other people have to say

Over on Instagram, @devsday writes ” I love how lightweight it is, feeling somewhat like a gel-cream-lotion hybrid, but it eliminates the need for a separate hydrating serum or barrier supporting serum with the lipid complex. I’ve noticed less redness, and a more even skin tone since incorporating this. Jordan absolutely nailed it— It’s such a well rounded antioxidant treatment that feels like a total luxury at a great price point.”

And on Cult Beauty, another customer writes “It’s a blend of antioxidants, some of them said to be powerful like astaxanthin, packed in a very nice to use emulsion. I find it a great product”.

The takeaway

All in all, I really do like this product and I think the results are great. However, it’s the price tag holding me back – but I’m firmly an affordable skincare girlie!

I feel like this is a real treat for the skin and the fact that it’s gentle enough for all skin types means it’s definitely something I would recommend to people.

If you’ve got some disposable cash or you like higher-end products, this really could be your go-to antioxidant!
