This £12 Moisturiser Is a Dream for My Combination Skin

If you’ve read any of my previous articles on Live That Glow or elsewhere, you’ll already know that affordable and accessible skincare is my bag. That’s why my skincare shelves are full of The Ordinary, Byoma, CeraVe, and the odd luxury products like Dermalogica and Jordan Samuel.

I’m not an expensive skincare gal, and I’ve found that affordable products suit my combination skin best and that spending a ton of money on skincare isn’t *actually* going to transform my breakouts or dry spots (believe me, I’ve tried a lot of products).

When it comes to moisturisers, this can be a tough one for combination skin types like mine – too greasy and I’m like an oil slick, too light and I’ve got dry patches on my chin. But this CeraVe Moisturising Lotion is one I’ve stuck with since I first tried it a couple of years ago.

The product and ingredients

CeraVe’s Daily Moisturising Lotion is a “lightweight, oil-free moisturizer with three essential ceramides that locks in skin’s moisture and helps restore the skin’s protective barrier.” And, despite its lightweight formula, it really does moisturise.

It contains hyaluronic acid and glycerin and doesn’t include sulfates or fragrance, helping to gently restore and protect even dry and sensitive skin.

I use this on my face and my body, and it’s a great follow-up after using the brand’s SA Bumpy Skin Cleanser (which I also use on my face and body). It’s also a great base to mix with serums, and I often mix my vitamin C powder from The Ordinary with this moisturiser.

It comes in a 355ml bottle, so it lasts for aaages. And, it’s only *wait for it* £12.00 on the Boots UK website ($13.72 on the Walmart US website), making it an absolute steal since it lasts me over a month.

My ongoing results

When I first used this moisturiser, I did wonder whether it would be hydrating and moisturising enough for my skin, since I have some recurring dry and flaky patches on my chin. The first few times I used it I was pleasantly surprised, but still dubious.

After around a week of use alongside the SA Cleanser, I was really surprised with how hydrated, smooth, and plump my skin felt. I use this moisturiser in the mornings and evenings on damp skin (when I’m not using retinol), and it’s lightweight enough that it sinks into my skin quickly before I apply my SPF and makeup.

It’s non-comedogenic and oil-free, so it doesn’t cause any breakouts –  which is a huge plus point since I suffer from spots and pimples around my chin and cheeks.

Before I moved to a hot country, I used oils on my body rather than moisturisers. But, now, this always feels too greasy for me on hot and sticky nights and oils are a bit of a nightmare when I’m going to be out and about in the sun all day. But this moisturiser is a really great one for soothing sunburn, dry or sensitive patches, for use after exfoliating, and as a general hydrator. I get pretty dry legs, and this product clears that right up without me having to wait an age for it to dry before I get dressed.

This is so gentle that it can be used on any skin type, and it’s even great for teens to use in their skincare routine!

What other people have to say

On the Boots UK website, Carol writes “Great product that moisturises skin without leaving it greasy The pump action bottle makes it last longer”, while another user says “Not too greasy leaving nice and smooth complexion skin softer”.

Emma says “It’s definitely one of my favourite moisturisers, it leaves my skin flawless and it’s too heavy, it is long-lasting and is a reasonable price”, and other people are also using this on their body as well as their face “Handy dispenser pump so no mess, lovely moisturiser that sinks in with no greasy feel so come the morning my skin just feels nice & soft. I use it mainly at night on my arms, legs & feet, the other half uses it as a hand cream & his arms…”

“I purchased this mainly as it’s non-comedogenic ( not many body moisturisers are) & good for sensitive skin, although pricey I think it’s worth it given it’s [sic] other special ingredients. – even better when on special offer, I will definitely purchase again.”

The takeaway

This is a non-fussy moisturiser that soothes reactive skin, doesn’t cause breakouts or excess oiliness, is lightweight and moisturises well – what’s not to love?!

Its unbeatable value for money, accessibility, and the fact it’s suitable for all skin types make this a product I will always continue to use *everywhere* on my body.
