I Used the Viral ZIIP Halo for a Month. These Are the Skin Changes I Noticed

Like many self-confessed beauty geeks, I’ve taken to supercharging my beauty routine with at-home skincare tools as of late.

Because – let’s face it – between a hectic work schedule and the rising cost of professional treatments, and well, everything, regular appointments with a facialist aren’t always realistic.

Created to deliver salon-inspired microcurrent treatments from the comfort of home, devices like the ZIIP Halo are looking to bridge that gap.

I tested the device for 30 days to see whether it truly lived up to the buzz. (No pun intended.) These are the changes I noticed.

The device details

You can pick up the ZIIP Halo for £379.99/$399.99, which is obviously a little eye-watering in price – especially if you’re not sure how much bang for your buck you’ll be getting in terms of results.

But it’s considerably cheaper than monthly tech-heavy facials, and you can use the device more frequently; ergo, the potential for quicker and more sustainable results.

This handheld facial tool is sold as an ‘all-in-one microcurrent facial device’, adapting electrical currents to work with the skin’s natural bioelectricity to “transform the look and feel of your skin.”

The ZIIP Halo comes with its own mobile app, featuring a range of microcurrent treatments that you can tailor to your skin’s specific needs or area of concern. Whether you want to tighten, brighten, or lift – there’s a setting for all. Standouts include the ‘4 Minute Facial’, ‘Collagen Renewal’, and ‘Lymphatic Drainage’.

According to one study, it’s been shown to:

  • Reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by 27%
  • Boost plumpness and firmness by 27%
  • Improve skin tone by 13%

Treatments range from just one minute to almost 15, making the ZIIP Halo just as suited to evenings when you have time for a longer ritual as those when you can only cram in a quick session.

How I tested the ZIIP Halo

Within her guided in-app video treatments, ZIIP founder Melanie Simon claims that within just 30 days, you will start to notice skin changes from the device. So, naturally, I began the ‘Best Skin of Your Life in 30 Days’ treatment plan with high expectations.

Each evening on freshly cleansed skin – or, on the odd morning when I wanted to look a little more sculpted – I applied ZIIP’s Silver Conductive Gel, formulated to hydrate the skin. They have a few different ones to choose from, but this felt like the best route for me.

After applying it to the areas of my face and neck indicated in the app, I switched on the device, synced it to my phone and followed the guided treatment, with Melanie talking me through each movement and explaining the benefits along the way.

The monthly plan alternated between combination treatments (such as collagen renewal paired with lymphatic drainage) and scheduled rest days. Each treatment differed subtly depending on its focus, with variations in pressure, areas of the face to avoid and whether it utilised microcurrent or Nanocurrent™ technology, or a combination of both.

First impressions

My main goals with the ZIIP Halo were to see whether it could help improve the texture and redness left behind by breakouts, while also lending my face a little more definition. Fine lines and wrinkles aren’t a concern for me at this stage, so I wasn’t looking to assess its anti-ageing claims. That said, I know many people turn to the device for precisely that reason and report positive results.

The first thing that stood out to me was the ZIIP Halo’s versatility. Whether my skin felt congested, breakout-prone, or simply a little puffy, there always seemed to be a treatment to match. When you’re investing this much money in an at-home device, that adaptability matters. And it’s far from a one-trick pony.

The lifting treatments delivered the quickest payoff. I noticed an almost immediate improvement in the definition of my cheekbones, and the lymphatic drainage setting was another standout, helping to reduce puffiness and leaving my complexion looking noticeably brighter and more refreshed.

The movements themselves remained largely consistent, following lifting strokes along the jawline, cheekbones and forehead. Nothing ever hurt, but some of the facelift ones had a higher intensity and felt a little spicier. For the most part, it’s mainly a gentle electric sensation.

Overall, I found the device very simple to incorporate into my routine. Its battery life was another pleasant surprise, requiring just one or two charges over the entire 30-day testing period.

My results

I took these photos exactly one month apart: the left on day one of using the ZIIP Halo, and the right on day 30. Admittedly, I’m a little more tanned in the latter (thank you holiday and heatwave combo), so it’s not a perfectly controlled comparison.

While I wouldn’t say the visual difference is dramatic, I did notice that my face felt consistently more sculpted and defined. Looking at the images side by side, there’s also a subtle improvement in the appearance of post-breakout redness and overall clarity.

What other users are saying

A quick browse of Reddit tells me that most other users are similarly happy with their results – any complaints I’ve seen seem to come down with functionality of the Halo versus the original Ziip device.

User inquiringdoc says, “I have been using it for about a year. Def improvements over time along with the immediate lift. I do think my jowls are better.”

TempestTints goes even further, saying, “I’ve had my Ziip for over 3 years and I’ll die with it. The results are second to none.”

However, some users have said that their Halo doesn’t have the same longevity as the original Ziip device. Skanda22 says, “I love my OG ZIIP. Like 5 or 6 years old and still hasn’t broken.. hit a Halo as a replacement. Zonked out in a month and the replacement was no better. I still use my OGX. It’s really well made compared to the newer model.”

Obviously I’ve only been using my device for just over a month now but I can only say that so far I’ve had zero issues with my device.

Overall value for money

Yes, £379.99/$399.99 is *a lot* to spend on any beauty product.  As ever though, it really comes down to what you’re trying to achieve and how much you’re really going to commit to using this device.

For me, subtly lifted, snatched cheekbones are worth the investment – especially since I’m happy to use my device at least five times a week.

If you’re looking to correct more serious sagging or signs of ageing though there are other in office treatments that your money may be better spent on. Again, it really comes down to what you’re looking to achieve.

For my overall results, and the quality of the device itself though, I’m good with the price here.

The takeaway

Perhaps the promise of ‘Best Skin of Your Life in 30 Days’ is a little ambitious, but after a month of consistent use, I do feel it’s helping my skin move in the right direction. While the improvements have been subtle rather than transformative, they’ve been noticeable enough to make me want to keep using the device.

No treatment, whether in-clinic or at home, delivers instant and lasting results overnight. Healthy skin is the product of consistency. After 30 days, I feel the ZIIP Halo has demonstrated genuine potential, and I’m excited to see how my skin continues to respond as I make it a permanent part of my daily routine.
