This Vieve Sell-Out Mist Has Made Me Do a 180 on Makeup Setting Sprays

I will happily hold my hands up and say I have always been a setting spray snob. You want me to spritz water onto the face I’ve just spent 20 whole minutes tirelessly applying makeup on? I don’t think so.
I’ll skip the drip marks I’ve experienced before thanks, as well as wet skin that takes ages to dry and that tight, uncomfortable feeling later on. I mean, they just don’t work. Or do they…?
Enter stage left Vieve Invisiveil Setting Spray (£28). Now here is a makeup setting spray my oily skin and I can get on board with. Keep scrolling to find out why.
The product details
This 100ml vegan and cruelty free mist contains niacinamide, cell pulse (an antioxidant coffee extract for moisturising and energising) and portulaca vita which contains vitamins B1, B2 and C for soothing and hydrating the skin.
It promises to have 16-hour long wear and flexible hold, without leaving the skin tight. It’s apparently transfer-proof, alcohol-free and can be used as a skin prepper, makeup setting spray and refresher.
First impressions
In all honesty, when I opened the box that had very kindly been sent to me, my very first impression was “oh here we go, yet another ‘setting’ spray” but we’ll leave the bad manners there. Because boy did I have to eat my words later.
I sprayed it onto the back of my hand first to see just how ‘lightweight’ it would actually be on my makeup and the first thing I noticed was the smell. Yum. It smells like a spa day thanks to its gorgeous neroli scent. At least I knew it would smell good on my skin, but would it look ok?
After doing a full face of makeup, I held the bottle 30cm away from my face and spritzed in quick, short spurts, moving in a circular motion around my face.

It felt cool and refreshing. It smelt amazing. And my face was now completely wet. This obviously wasn’t unexpected, but I prayed it wouldn’t start dripping down my freshly applied foundation leaving little white lines in its wake. After all, I had got my base/bronzer ratio just right that day and I didn’t want to have to redo it.
To my surprise though, within 30 seconds, my face was completely dry and with a subtle radiance left behind. I have very oily skin, so I don’t like to add too much extra radiance to it, however this wasn’t overbearing. It was just right.
It felt comfortable – no tightness whatsoever – and my hard work hadn’t been disrupted. Phew.
My results – and eating my words
Ok, ok so it felt nice, it smelt great, and it didn’t ruin my makeup. But did my makeup actually stay in place? Because those with oily skin will know that figuring out how to stop your makeup from sliding off is one of life’s great mysteries.
Please, please believe me when I say that since using this setting spray, I have not had to re-apply my makeup halfway through the day – not once. Perhaps the odd bit of extra concealer on my chin where I am having a breakout at the moment, but I can put my hand on my heart and say I am thrilled with this product.
It somehow manages to keep my makeup in place all day, as well as its original radiance, but my coverage is kept under lock and key and, most importantly to this oily skin gal, my complexion doesn’t look like I’ve slathered it in olive oil within a few hours.
I don’t feel like I need to stick a towel to my face by lunchtime to soak up the grease like I usually do (it’s a glamourous life over here), nor do I need to cover my face in foundation for a second time that day to replace what has slithered off.
I’m obsessed and thrilled and all of the other positive adjectives. I always knew makeup setting sprays were a good idea…

What other users are saying
I wanted to know whether other people agreed with me, particularly those with oily skin. Hayley writes, “I have super oily skin and my makeup doesn’t last long. However, I felt it did with this spray.” I couldn’t agree more.
And Angela thinks this one stands out from the rest. “I have every setting spray on the market but this formula outshines them all,” she says. “It doesn’t make your makeup dry or too dewy, but it locks in your finished look.” This is the balance we need – dewy but not too dewy (greasy) and hydrating but not so hydrating that your makeup slides off.
Kayleigh says, “such a gorgeous setting spray. It gives a natural finish and the spray is very generous you don’t need a lot of pumps. Lovely scent too and leaves your skin feeling so refreshed. I use it even without makeup.”
Amber writes, “smells amazing and it works but can get cheaper ones that are just as good.” I agree that the price is high, but I personally haven’t come across any cheaper ones that perform better.
Overall value for money
Honestly? I do wish this was slightly cheaper, but I will still be buying it over and over again because I love it and it works for my skin. Spending £28 on a makeup setting spray though is a stretch, no matter how much you love the product.
Also, some might argue just doing a good skincare regime every morning should mean you don’t need something to hold your makeup in place as the condition of your skin will speak for itself. But as someone who religiously cleanses with water every morning, I can say that whilst it obviously helps, it’s not always enough to hold makeup on my oily skin for long periods of time.
So investing in a makeup setting spray that works (like this one) is important to me and worth the money.
The takeaway
What I once thought would be yet another makeup ruiner that wouldn’t actually keep it in place even for a second has now become one of my can’t-live-without products. Another bottle to add to my already bulging dressing table.
My doubt clearly came from past experiences and the fact that I hadn’t ever found ‘the one’. But now that I’ve found it, it will be with me and my makeup for as long as Vieve make it. As someone who battles with oily skin daily, I can’t recommend this makeup setting spray enough.
