Can Fresh Rose Floral Toner and Anastasia Beverly Hills' Dewy Set look after skin and set makeup?

Makeup Setting Spray + Skincare?  Yes please!

So while in the winter or a minimalist makeup look I wouldn’t think of reaching for a makeup setting spray, for me, they definitely have a place when it comes to hot weather, fancy events, or long days when I need to look halfway professional.

But as someone who falls firmly into the skincare camp when it comes to makeup versus skincare, I’ve struggled to find a spray which will both keep my full face of blusher, foundation, mascara and concealer in place, at the same time as being gentle on my skin.

Luckily, it turns out there are some great options out there and here are two I’ve really enjoyed.

Fresh Rose Floral Toner

One of these is the ever-popular Fresh (which can do pretty much no wrong when it comes to my skin), and their Rose Floral Toner.

Slightly cheaper than its famous (and rose petal-infused) sister product, the Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner; this gentle spritz offers the added benefit of also serving as a makeup setting spray and a refreshing mist.

Containing glycerin to soften and rose flower water to hydrate and soothe, my only niggle with this is that the spray function (on mine at least) isn’t particularly fine, instead releasing the product in concentrated bursts rather than a fine spritz.

It also doesn’t provide quite the makeup staying power of some of my less natural setting sprays.

Great for fans of rose water or natural toners, as well as anyone looking for a natural or dewy look setting spray.

Great for: Hydrating skin.

Not-so-great for: Even application, since the spray is hard to distribute evenly.

Fresh’s Rose Floral Toner is from £12 for 60 ml, Cult Beauty UK and from $15 for 2 oz/ 60 ml, Sephora US

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dewy Set

Another firm favourite is Anastasia Beverly Hills Dewy Set.

Leave it to a makeup artist to create a great setting spray, this mist really does keep my makeup intact throughout anything that I care to throw at it, and leaves my skin gorgeously dewy as an added extra.

The main thing I love about this product though is the effect it offers.

When I tested it for the first time over a light concealer I was pleased to get a couple of compliments about how my skin was glowing (my life’s goal).

The addition of skin conditioning and anti-microbial caprylyl glycol, as well as the antioxidant portulaca oleracea extract also makes this a product I would be happy to wear on its own for just a natural, dewy finish.

Alternatively, it would make a lovely (if very expensive) refreshing mist for the beach, particularly because of its yummy coconut-vanilla scent.

I’ve included the full list of ingredients of this (and Fresh’s Rose Floral Toner) at the bottom of this post.

I do find the spray comes out quite thick and fast (!) though, so I’ve been using it slightly further away from the face than I normally would use a setting spray, to achieve a lighter, more even coverage.

Great for those who love a dewy look but perhaps a little too much bling for matte-look fans.

Great for: A lovely glow.

Not-so-great for: Anyone who doesn’t like artificial fragrance as this has some.

Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Dewy Set is from £14 for 30 ml, Cult Beauty US and from $15 for 1 oz/ 30 ml, Sephora US

Both sprays look great, especially Fresh which is, unfortunately, unavailable here!
