The Verdict on Tropic’s Natural Foaming Enzyme Powder Cleanser

I’m a big fan of Tropic Skincare and I’ve been using some of their products for quite a while now, including their Temanu Balm All-in-One Skin Saviour and, more recently, their Foaming Enzyme Powder Clarifying Cleanser (its old name was Clear Skies).
Designed to clarify, reduce oil, and prevent blemishes, this cleanser sounded perfect for my combination skin. And, although I really swear by CeraVe’s SA Bumpy Skin Cleanser, I wanted to try this one out when I saw how great my sister’s skin looks using it.
I was also planning some travel, and a powder cleanser is perfect for reducing the liquids I need to take in my hand luggage on the plane (anyone else fed up with this restriction?! I want to take all of my skincare away with me!) It’s lighter in weight than a liquid cleanser, and it’s super convenient.
Here’s how I got on with this affordable, natural cleanser after 2 weeks of use on my combination skin type.
The product and ingredients
I really like natural products and Tropic is one of the leading skincare brands in the natural section.
This cleanser (£22 on the Tropic UK website) contains two types of enzymes – the first is lipase enzymes, which break down the fat-based impurities hiding in your pores like sebum and oil, and the second set is protease enzymes, which go after the protein-based debris such as dead skin cells. Working together, you couldn’t get a better skin-clearing double act.
It also features blue spirulina (this is what makes the powder slightly blue), an algae that promotes cell turnover and helps to reduce pores, and environmentally-friendly rice powder to create a smooth and silky finish while reducing sebum.
Despite this cleanser breaking down sebum and oil, it doesn’t dry my skin. I apply my trusty CeraVe Moisturising Lotion after cleansing, and my skin feels smooth, clean, and moisturised.

How to use
This cleanser is a powder that’s water-activated. The instructions say to shake half to a full teaspoon of the powder into your palm and then mix with a few drops of water to activate.
I then mix the water and powder with my finger to create a creamy lather, before massaging into my face using circular motions, carefully avoiding the delicate eye area.
The brand says to rinse this off, but I also used a facial cloth to remove excess. You can finish by splashing your face with a little cold water for ultimate refreshment.
This is a great product to use as your second cleanse if you double cleanse, and will remove any excess from your oil cleanser.

What other people have to say
Linda, on the Tropic website, writes “Good everyday cleanser that gives my skin great results and appearance to look bright and hydrates. Fantastic range of products.”
While Vikie says “Love this product, blue powder that foams up when applied and clears my skin beautifully!”
Steph bought this cleanser for her daughter, she writes “Got to help my daughter’s skin breakouts seems to be really helping especially reducing the redness on blemish break outs”, and Sarah says “Can’t live without this! Morning to freshen my face up in the shower, evening as a double cleanse after makeup removal.”
The takeaway
If you’re looking for a cleanser to clarify, deep clean, and remove excess oil and sebum – this is a really great option.
At £22 on the Tropic UK website, it isn’t cheap but it’s definitely more affordable than other products on the market and it lasts a really long time.
