My face and neck are totally different undertones and it makes foundation matching a nightmare. Should I be matching to my neck, chest, or just my actual face? I can never tell what looks normal in photos lol.
Ruby says:
This is far more common than people realise. Strangely I was talking to my daughter about it only this week. I always think in terms of harmony rather than accuracy. If your chest or body is visible, your foundation should sit comfortably alongside that, not compete with it. Going too pale is the usual mistake, it can make the face feel disconnected.
Choose a shade that works with your body, then soften the face by blending slightly down the neck and into the jawline rather than trying to correct everything with colour.
Look for foundations with a flexible or neutral undertone and a natural finish, they adapt better across different areas of skin. A touch of warmth through bronzer or cheek colour can also bring everything back into balance.
… and most of all don’t fall foul of matching both areas separately, in particular with a shimmery, dewy body and then matte face.
I love Makeup By Mario Surreal Skin Foundation and Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.
