Here, he advises a reader on how to make skin look fresher. Got a question for Jordan? Send it to columnists@livethatglow.com for a chance to have it featured.

I feel like my skin looks tired? I’m 32 and my face just seems flatter and duller than it used to, no matter how much sleep I get or how much skincare I pile on. My makeup doesn’t sit right anymore either, everything somehow makes me look more dehydrated by lunchtime. I keep getting targeted ads for ‘plumping’ products and collagen supplements, but I genuinely can’t tell what’s actually worth trying and what’s just marketing. Is this just normal ageing starting to happen, or is there something specific I should be focusing on to get my skin looking fresher again?

Jordan says:

First off, you are certainly not alone. So many of us feel this way from time to time – whether it’s because a product is no longer suitable for our skin, the routine isn’t working as a whole or the need arises to step into something different or more “active” as we age.

Whenever someone reaches out to me expressing frustration, saying they are using too many products that don’t seem to be working, I always recommend seeking the help of a professional. Booking with an aesthetician will almost always provide the most efficient path to getting your glow back. While I understand that a facial may not be in everyone’s budget, just booking a consultation with a facialist in person can pay off so much!

Even though there is an overabundance of information on the internet and social media about skincare, it can often be hard to understand what’s really going on with our skin and whose advice you should be taking if you don’t have professional skincare knowledge and experience.

Getting a consultation or a facial from a reputable aesthetician can uncover the real root of your skin woes, and offer solutions to get you back on track very quickly. Sometimes, we are simply unknowingly on the wrong products and need to find the right routine for our skin type to get our glow and bounce back.

Going in for a basic facial or consult will allow you to learn about your skin type and any sub-conditions, products that are suitable for your skin and the types of products that you should be using. Remember, you don’t have to purchase the brand of products a spa or clinic is selling. You just need to take home the knowledge of the types of products you should be using and how to work them in to a routine.

While getting a facial or consultation may initially seem like a big investment, it will save you money down the line as you will know what your skin needs and you won’t feel the need to be making endless skincare purchases that don’t live up to their promises.
