If I wear sunscreen + light makeup every day, do I have to double cleanse at night or is one good cleanser enough?
Jordan says:
I always say that double cleansing can be a helpful method for many people to ensure they are getting a thorough cleanse, but it is absolutely not a must… and as always, it depends!
If you have only applied one good layer of SPF in the morning followed by light makeup, chances are that you wouldn’t NEED to double cleanse. Could you? Absolutely. However, it is certainly not a need. If you do opt for a single cleanse, here are some things that you will need to do:
- Make sure you are using a cleanser for your skin type and a cleanser that can effectively remove SPF and makeup.
- Use enough of the cleanser to thoroughly remove everything.
- Use a gentle washcloth to help lift up the cleanser, all makeup, and SPF (unless you have sensitivities or conditions that will be exacerbated by the friction).
Now, if you are doing all the steps above and you don’t feel like the cleanse is effective enough, you can easily revert to double cleansing or simply reevaluate your chosen cleanser.
Whether you do a single or double cleanse will depend on your personal preference and may change with fluctuations in sunscreen and makeup application, as well as the seasons.
No matter if you decide to go in with one nightly cleanse or two, keep in mind, the most important thing is to ensure you are using a cleanser for your skin type, one that’s within your budget and that works for you and your skin.
