I Finally Tried Hailey Bieber’s Viral Rhode Lip Tint. Here Are My Honest Thoughts

Unless you’re really not into makeup or you’re not on social media, I would place a bet that you’ve seen Hailey Bieber’s Rhode products doing the (viral) rounds.

The brainchild of Justin Bieber’s wife, a model and American socialite famed for her high-profile relationship, famous friends, modelling campaigns AND incredible skin, it only makes sense that this brand has blown up in the last few years.

One of her best-selling and most viral products is her Peptide Lip Tint (£18 from Rhode UK /$18 from Rhode US) –  which even has its own phone case where you can store the product on the back of your phone. Not only this, it’s award-worthy, winning the Vogue Beauty Awards 2024 for The Modern Make-Up Must Have and the Byrdie Beauty Awards 2023 for the Best Tinted Lip Balm – impressive.

After seeing this literally all over my TikTok FYP, I really wanted to see what the fuss was about.

I don’t use lipstick, lip balm, or lipgloss that often, but when I do, I can be quite the fussy customer. My lips are quite thin, so I never really want to draw attention to them, however, I have found some perfect products recently that have become a statement in my makeup routine. Could this Rhode fave be a new addition? And can it really leave my lips looking “visibly plumped” as promised by the brand?

Here’s my honest review on one of the most viral products I’ve seen while scrolling.

The product details

Rhode says this lip tint is a “Sheer-but-buildable color that melts onto lips for a hint of tint and rich, glossy finish. The nourishing, fragrance-free formula leaves lips feeling hydrated and visibly plump.”

It comes in a 10ml/0.3 fl oz tube and is quite pricey for a lip tint. However, it does contain shea butter, peptides to visibly plump and reduce the look of fine lines, cupuaçu to treat dry and dehydrated lips while helping to maintain skin elasticity, and babassu – a rich natural source of lauric acid to support the microbiome and replenish overall skin moisture. It’s also unscented, cruelty-free, vegan, gluten-free, and dermatologist-tested.

I tried the shade Ribbon (sheer pink) since this looked like it would suit my skin tone the most out of the other shades, which are Raspberry Jelly, Toast, and Espresso.

Ok, so it’s not exactly your average lip tint. But does it live up to these claims?

First impressions

Your honest first thoughts on the product including its look, shade, smell, texture, how it feels on the lips.  Include any thoughts on the packaging.

Having seen a LOT of unboxing videos and reviews of Rhode products, I knew I liked the look of the packaging (even if it is slightly clunky-looking, in my opinion). So when I got my hands on this lip tint I knew what to expect.

As I mentioned earlier it’s unscented, so there’s no comments on the smell here, but I applied some on the back of my hand and it felt smooth and nourishing, with no real stickiness (I hate a sticky lip product!)

This felt really nice when applied on my lips, sort of balmy and sort of glossy. It’s shiny, but definitely not sticky, and buildable.

My results

The brand recommends using this as a standalone nourishing gloss or paired with a lip liner for an even richer pigmented lip.

I decided to try this on bare lips since I wanted to see how it looked without extra pigment and I wanted to feel the benefits of the ingredients. I’m also not really keen on gloss over lipstick, if I’m going to wear a lipstick then it’s going to be matte. But I did wonder whether, like loads of other lip tints I’ve tried, it would be too sheer and shiny for me. Mind you, with the addition of a lip liner this is perfect.

I carefully squeezed a small amount of the product out of the tube and, let me tell you, this glides on perfectly. No uneven spreading or huge blobs (can you tell I’ve been affected negatively by these types of products before?!)

It feels moisturising and nourishing, I would liken it more to a thick balm than a gloss. Strangely, some users have said that this product is gritty, this isn’t something I have experienced in the slightest. It does, however, have a very, very slight tingle, which is the plumping effect!

I kind of miss the sensory factor of scent here, though, being more used to sweet-smelling lip products that seem good enough to eat!  But, saying that, if I ever get lipstick, lip oil, lip balm, or lip gloss in my mouth when wearing it, it can really irritate my throat and I’ve not experienced that at all with this tint. Big plus for me.

As I expected, this lip tint is too sheer for me, however, it could just be that I need to try a darker shade in the range. I’d say it pretty much matches the colour of my natural lips. But, to be honest, I really like the feel of it and because it’s not super high gloss I will definitely be keeping it in my handbag for instant hydration and slight plumping.

On longevity, the verdict is in. Quite a lot of reviews I’ve seen have said that this product doesn’t seem to stay on very long meaning you have to top up throughout the day – I’m not sure what people were expecting from a tint though, I thought it would be a given that this product wouldn’t stay put due to it being shiny, hydrating, and full of moisturising ingredients.

What other users are saying

Most people seem to really like this product, Anna C on the Rhode website writes “I absolutely love these, my lips feel so nourished and moisturized. the shades are just perfect”.

While Madison F writes “I never leave reviews but I love this product so much that I had to! The color is beautiful on my lips and is so hydrating!”

On the other side of the fence, Ludovica on TikTok writes “Is it just me or do they last like 5 minutes on the lips?”, while Fatima says “It’s overhyped it only gives color to lips does nothing for dry lips”.

I have seen a lot of people suggest the Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment and her scented glosses rather than this lip tint but, overall, this product has had a lot of positive reactions.

@clarealine

Overall value for money

I think this lip tint is a pretty good price for a viral product from a really high-profile brand, and it’s something I would buy again but I’d definitely try the shade Toast next time for a darker lip. A little word of warning – be sure to buy directly from a reputable store as there have been quite a few fakes circulating on places like TikTok Shop, and who knows what ingredients are in those.

As far as dupes go, for great hydration without the peptides, Frank Body does a cheaper lip balm that’s very moisturising. And for another celebrity brand that has really cute packaging and amazing results, the Summer Fridays lip balm is beautiful and gives really long-lasting moisture.

The takeaway

Overall, I really like this product. It’s easy to wear, it slightly plumps without feeling uncomfortable or super tingly (if you’ve tried the OG Too Faced Lip Injection gloss then you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about!), it’s not really sticky so my hair doesn’t end up attached to my lips, and the shade Ribbon has given me a really sheer flush to my lips.

While there are other products out there and this isn’t a particularly impressive lip tint, I do like the way it feels hydrating and moisturising and I like the packaging – the phone case you can get to house this is also *genius*.

Bravo, Rhode, bravo.
